Reykjavik, Iceland. In the evening news on Channel 2 a report featuring the well known webmaster event “Snow Gathering” was highly criticized by many organizations and the mayor of Reykjavik City.

According to the news reports Mayor Vilhjalmsson, Vilhjalmur has requested that the police would investigate the attendees of the upcoming pornography conference as there could be child molesters and producers of child pornography at the venue of such a conference. This was stated in a statement from the mayor yesterday. The statement was in response to a challenge of rape victim organization Stigamot where government officials were encouraged to stop the conference, called Snow Gathering from taking place.

„We are very satisfied with the mayor‘s response“ says Jonsdottir, a spokes person for Stigamot. „It is enjoyable that he responds with such responsibility, and we hope that the government will do their job and stop this conference from taking place“she added.

On Channel 2 news the same evening, Jonsdottir was interviewed and she claimed that she was fully confident that the Icelandic government would deem the conference illegal. She also claims that web sites linking from the gatherings homepage encourage human trafficking and child pornography.

„You only have to look at the 210th article of the Penal code to see that this is completely illegal. So we do not worry about this anymore“ Jonsdottir added. Her organization has issued a statement to the government, members of parliament and to the mayor of Reykjavik reminding them of these laws. Jonsdottir also reminds Icelandic officials that they are bound by Scandinavian and European treaties to work again prostitution, pornography and human trafficking.

“Would we allow drug dealers to hold a conference in our country? I dare not to think so” Jonsdottir said and added “The selling point of this conference is that here it’s easy to gain access to prostitutes because they have just arrived here and don’t speak the language.”

It is obvious that Iceland is not yet ready for international conferences as it claims it is so famous for. It will be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Das "Problem" ist auf HÖCHSTER POLITISCHER Ebene diskutiert worden (das alleine ist schon ein schlechter Witz - oder glaubt jemand, Angela Merkel würde es interessieren, wenn sich unsere Adultwebmaster in Berlin treffen?). Und die Reaktion darauf war, daß das Hotel seine Zusage abgesagt hat und die Veranstalter vom Snowgathering daraufhin den Event abgesagt haben.

Meiner Ansicht nach, ist dies für ein europäisches Land eine neue Qualität der Diskriminierung und der Beschneidung der freien Meinungsäusserung. Der Vergleich mit Drogendealern ist zudem eine ziemlich Frechheit.

ich finde das sowas von schockierend, eine frechheit sondergleichen eine hart arbeitende und supergut in den steuertopf einzahlende branche so zu behandeln!
vor allem ist der eine nebensatz interessant *wir sind von der EU angehalten pornographie und bla und blubb zu bekämpfen* ......wird also wieder ein generelles problem

Wehret der Anfänge Kinder, das Europa der nächsten Generation kann schon die schöne neue Welt sein, von der immer alle sprechen - der Wandel verläuft so schleichend wenn man selber mittendrin ist. Würden wir die Entwicklung unserer Heimat Europa mit etwas Abstand verfolgen würden wir längst schockiert aufmerken.
